The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant aims to provide unemployed people with monthly financial assistance. Millions of people who rely on the grant, however, have not received their monthly payments.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has advised SRD grant applicants to contact their banks in order to secure their R350 grant payment. This is because the bank informs successful SRD grant applicants when their money is available.

Sassa said, “Clients who chose the cash send payment method and have pay dates on their status are advised to contact the bank they have selected if they have not yet received a voucher or mistakenly deleted the message so that the bank can resend the voucher.”

Several banks operate in South Africa. Sassa has provided the contact details of the most popular banks to ensure SRD grant beneficiaries can contact the banks to get their grant payment.

ABSA – 080 000 0122

Tyme Bank – 0860 999 119

NEDBANK – 0800 555 111

FNB – 087 575 9405

Standard Bank – 086 046 6639

Clients who choose cash send and have no payment dates are advised to provide banking details as this might be an indication that they have failed the mobile number verification.

Beneficiaries of the SRD grant are reminded to wait for SMS payment before they go to withdraw the grant in merchants or banks. This is the date that appears on the status of your SRD grant application but is not a payment date.

The date that appears next to your SRD grant status is the date when the grant was captured on the system. After the grant is captured in the system, grant beneficiaries can receive the SMS at any time.

The grant was first introduced in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic and has since been extended on several occasions.
