1. COVID-19: Lai Mohammed Reveals FG’s Decision On Fresh Lockdown Of Nigeria
Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has maintained that the federal government is not planning to impose another lockdown as the country battles a second wave of covid-19.
Mohammed made the submission on Monday in Lagos State during a conference where he responded to speculations that the government may impose another national lockdown as a result of the recent upsurge in cases of coronavirus infections in the country.
The Minister however expressed the government’s displeasure at the flagrant disregard for covid-19 protocols by many Nigerians, noting that this is contributing to the escalating daily records.
2. Atiku Blames Buhari Govt As He Reveals Why He Sold Intels Shares
Former Nigerian Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has blamed the President Muhammadu Buhari administration for his decision to sell his shares in Integrated Logistics Services Limited (Intels).
Atiku in a statement on Monday by his spokesperson, Paul Ibe explained that the federal government had been unable to separate politics from business and had been going after his business since 2015.
Naija News reports that Intels has been at loggerheads with the federal government, resulting in the cancellation of its 17-year-old contract with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) in 2017 for pilotage monitoring which empowered the company to collect revenue on some port operations on behalf of the government.
3. Court Remands Sowore, Four Others In Kuje Prison
African Action Congress Presidential candidate during the 2019 general elections, Omoyele Sowore and four others have on Monday been remanded by a Magistrate Court sitting in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja in Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing of their bail applications.
The formal bail of the Sahara Reporters publisher would be heard on Tuesday, January 5, 2020.
News had earlier reported that the activist and four others were arraigned on three charges of criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, and attempting to incite others.
4. Lagos Govt Fixes 18th January For Schools Resumption
The Lagos State Government has announced that all public and private schools below tertiary level in Lagos State should be reopened for the second term 2020/21 academic session from Monday, 18th of January, 2021.
Honourable Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo who revealed this today stated that this is in line with the Federal Government’s directive coupled with the second wave of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
5. Top FG Official Commends El-Rufai For Demolition Of Kaduna ‘Sex House’
The Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), Otunba Olusegun Runsewe has heaped praises on Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai for demolishing a house alleged to be the venue for a planned sex party in the state.
Runsewe in a statement on Sunday said but for the quick intervention of the Kaduna Governor, the state could have been turned into a new destination for sex tourism.
He argued that such acts of immorality are contrary to Nigeria’s cultural values and heritage and El-Rufai should be commended for nipping the action in the bud.
6. Fight Your Own Battles – ASUU Warns NAAT, Others
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, on Sunday warned the National Association of Academic Technologists, NAAT, or any other union against its plan to use it as bait to get anything from the Federal Government.
ASUU called on other unions to fight their battles their own ways.
The Chairman of ASUU in the University of Lagos, Dele Ashiru, gave this warning while reacting to the claims by NAAT expressing displeasure with the sharing arrangement of the N40 billion released by the Federal Government as Earned Academic Allowances for university workers.
7. Talking About Buhari’s Government Not Good For My Sanity – Soyinka
Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, on Monday, noted that he does not want to talk about President Muhammadu Buhari’s government for the sake of his sanity.
He, however, described the Lagos-Abeokuta-Ibadan railway as a long-overdue project. The playwright stated this during an interview with Kaftan TV.
8. PDP Vows To Teach Gov Umahi ‘A Lesson’ For Dumping The Party For APC
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to teach Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi a lesson in politics after he dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The PDP in a statement by its acting Caretaker Committee Chairman in Ebonyi State, Fred Udogu said Umahi only dumped PDP for APC verbally but has failed to resign his membership officially.
He further alleged that the Governor wants to be hobnobbing between the two parties but he won’t be allowed to have his way.
9. The Truth About Buhari Will Be Exposed Soon – Primate Ayodele
The leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, on Sunday, noted that the truth about President Muhammadu Buhari‘s government will soon be disclosed.
The cleric stated that Buhari is not in charge of his government. He added that the cabals are the ones ruling the country.
Primate Ayodele stated this during a live service in his church in Lagos State on Sunday.
10. FG Will Improve Security In 2021 – Lai Mohammed
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on Monday, promised that the Federal Government will improve security in 2021.
Mohammed noted that President Muhammadu Buhari has continued to provide the military and other security agencies with the required support to function better.
The Minister while speaking with newsmen described 2020 as the most challenging years for Nigeria, he added that the outbreak of the pandemic led to an economic recession, a heightened security challenge, and unnecessary violence in the country.
