SASSA Announces Social Grant Increment For 2023/2024

South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has announced an increment in its Social Grant. All grant types will receive an increment of 10% starting from 01 April and 01 October 2023.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) provides millions of South Africans with monthly social grants to help them cover the costs of living. South African citizens are awarded social grants if they meet the application requirements.

Lindiwe Zulu, the Minister of Social Development, stated that Sassa social grants would increase. The social grant increases were approved by the Minister of Finance.

SASSA is an entity of the Department of Social Development responsible for administering social assistance in terms of Section 3 of the Social Assistance Act.

The President declared the National State of Disaster as a result of the Covid-19 global pandemic. In this regard he introduced a special Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD) of R350 per month for 6 months to be paid to individuals who are currently unemployed, do not receive any form of income, social grant, or UIF payment, etc.
