Special Covid-19 SRD Grant 2022 Application Guide (www.srd.sassa.gov.za)
The President declared the National State of Disaster as a result of the Covid-19 global pandemic. In this regard he introduced a special Covid 19 Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD) of R350 per month for 6 months to be paid to individuals who are currently unemployed, do not receive any form of income, social grant, or UIF payment, etc.

This Social Relief of Distress Programme was confirmed in the Regulations made under Section 27(2) of the Disaster Management Act, 2002 (Act No. 57 of 2002):
Measures to prevent and combat the spread of COVID-19, as amended. Applicants will need to provide the following information
- Identity Number or Department of Home Affairs Refugee permit number
- Name and Surname as captured in the Identity Document
- Gender and Disability
- Contact details – Cell phone number
- Residential Address
Applicants will have to sign a declaration and consent to their information being validated and shared with other organizations and financial institutions such as SARS and banks. A detailed declaration and consent document is available on this website.
During the application process, applicants are expected to agree or disagree with this document by confirming for instance through a yes or no option. Successful applicants will have to provide their banking details for payment purposes or their bank of choice for a cash transfer.
NOTE: The application portal reopens Friday the 30th of April 2022
- All applications will be done electronically/digitally and any of the following frontline
- application channels may be used:
- Firstly, through the salsa relief grant website at https://srd.sassa.gov.za;
- Through our WhatsApp line on 082 046 8553, or
- The USSD line *134*7737#
Please note that an application should be submitted through only one of the above channels — it is not necessary to submit multiple applications. Confirmation will be received as soon as the application has been successfully submitted.
It is important for applicants to note that the bank account or the cellular phone number provided for payment MUST be registered in the name of the approved applicant to ensure that payment goes to the correct recipients.

Applicants are requested to provide information on a bank account through which they can be paid so that we can reduce the long queues at the post office branches.
