Be On Guard, ISIS and Al-Qaeda planning to penetrate Southern Nigeria, US warns
The United States Has Fired a strong warning to the Nigerian Government telling them to be on guard and double their security agency after they uncovered a plan made by the deadly Arabic terrorist groups (ISIS and Al-Qaeda) to penetrate the southern region of the African country.
The US also confirmed that some members of this groups has already been spotted in the Northern part of Nigeria and that may help them reinforce and gain entrance into the southern region.
Dagvin Anderson who is the US special operations command, Africa said in a media briefing carried out by TheCable that this terrorist groups especially (Al-Qaeda) are not just planning to penetrate only Nigeria but also expanding it nets to other African countries.
Anderson said the US will continue to partner with Nigeria when it comes to sharing vital security intelligence.
“We have engaged with Nigeria and continue to engage with them in intel sharing and in understanding what these violent extremists are doing,” he said.
“And that has been absolutely critical to their engagements up in the Borno state and into an emerging area of northwest Nigeria that we’re seeing al-Qaeda starting to make some inroads in.
“So, this intelligence sharing is absolutely vital and we stay fully engaged with the government of Nigeria to provide them with an understanding of what these terrorists are doing, what Boko Haram is doing, what ISIS-West Africa is doing, and how ISIS and al-Qaeda are looking to expand further south into the littoral areas.”
Anderson added that for international efforts to yield desired results in the fight against terrorism in Nigeria, the government must take the lead.
“When it comes to Nigeria in general, Nigeria, obviously, is a critical nation to West Africa. It is a critical nation and we realise that Nigeria is a lynchpin,” he said.
This is a wake-up call not only to the Nigerian Governments but it also extends to every individual in the country to stay at an alert and protect their precious lives.
