FG Says NIN Generated By BVN Must Be Updated At The NIMC Centre
– The federal government has made clarifications regarding the NIN generated through the BVN
– NIMC revealed why any NIN generated by BVN alone is incomplete
– The agency disclosed steps Nigerians must take to validate any BVN generated NIN
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has informed Nigerians that any National Identity Number (NIN) generated through the Bank Verification Number (BVN) must still undergo registration at NIMC enrollment centre.
The agency disclosed on Twitter on Monday, January 11, that NIN generated by BVN can only be valid after it has been updated at an enrollment centre.

In another tweet on Tuesday, January 12, NIMC urged Nigerians who generated NIN through BVN to complete their registration.
Meanwhile, NIMC has warned the public to beware of a fake app that claims to help link the National Identity Number (NIN) to SIM cards.
Legit.ng reported that in a post on its Twitter handle, NIMC dissociated itself from the app, saying it is run by fraudsters who use it to harvest people’s NIN and BVN.
The commission advised people to protect their data and stop disclosing personal information to unauthorised persons or platforms.
In another news, the minister of state for health, Olorunnimbe Mamora, has said the federal government may suspend the ongoing NIN enrolment.
Mamora told Channels TV on Monday, January 11, that the exercise may be suspended due to the risks of contracting COVID-19 because of the large crowds which visit the NIN centres
He said the crowds that have thronged the NIN registration centres across the country is a cause for concern.
Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced that the NIN will become a compulsory requirement for obtaining a drivers license, starting from the second quarter of 2021.
Daily Trust reported that this was disclosed via a statement released by the FRSC spokesperson, Bisi Kazeem.
Quoting the Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, the FRSC spokesperson said the new development was in compliance with presidential directives.
