Lately you have been noticing slowdown of your internet speed which makes it difficult for you to even open a basic tab in a web browser or your internet subscription finishes quick than expected. It may be as a result that someone is tapping your internet connection without you knowing.

In this article, I will be giving you some easy ways to find out if someone is stealing your Wi-Fi, so you don’t need to look further because you’re in the right place.

How to Check if Someone is Stealing your Wi-Fi

Checking The Router

Checking the router is one of the easiest ways to find if someone is stealing your wifi. All you need to do is to check the lights on the router. You may have noticed that there are a bunch of lights on your router. Well, they show internet connectivity, hardwired network connections, and also any wireless activity.

So the first thing you might want to do is disconnect all your devices from the network and see if the light indicating the wireless activity is still blinking. If it is, then you can be sure that someone is stealing your wifi. But with this method, you sadly can’t do anything else. It’s just a quick and easy way to confirm your suspicions.

Check the Device Router List

The next option is to check the device router list. This router list can be found inside your router’s administrative console, which can be accessed by logging into the router console. In order to do that, you can simply enter your router’s IP address into a web browser window. Once you are in, you should look for a page that’ll show you all the devices connected to the network.

All routers are different, so the page might be named differently on different router console. Just try and look for something like ‘Device Manager’, ‘Connected Devices’, etc. The page should give you a list of IP addresses, MAC addresses, and device names. Just compare them to your devices to see if you can find any unwanted devices.

Alternatively, you can also use network monitoring tools on your computer to find out unwanted devices that are connected to your network. Most of these software tools will also offer some advanced features to get more control over your network. Before downloading a third-party tool, you might want to confirm if your router comes with its own software. A lot of companies like ASUS, D-Link, Netgear, etc. all have their own network management apps.

How to Stop People From Stealing Your Wi-Fi

Once you know that someone is indeed stealing your wifi, the question is – “How to stop them?” Well, the first thing you should do is to check the security protocol used to protect your network. Make sure you’re avoiding old security protocols like WEP and WPA, and are sticking to more modern protocols like WPA2-AES. A quick Google Search about the protocols should give you more info.

And the next thing which I’ll suggest would be to use a strong password. And not just that, it’s important that you keep changing your password once in, say, 2 months to keep intruders away. That way, even if someone manages to crack your wifi password, they’ll be kicked out every 2 months, eventually forcing them to quit being cheap and get their own connection.

The procedure on how to retrieve lost national identification number has been announced by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). This follows after the recent Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC)’s mandate on the linking of the National ID card with SIM card.

As a result of the complains from citizens who have lost their NIN slip, the NIMC has released the following information in order to help them retrieve their lost slip.

How to Replace, Retrieve Lost NIN Slip

Below are the following steps who lost their NIN slip should take in order to get a new one according to the information released by NIMC:

1. It will cost N500 to get a replacement for lost or misplaced NIN slip

2. Visit a bank near you to make the payment of N500 through REMITA

3. After payment, take the REMITA teller to the NIMC enrolment centre near you

4. Request for a reprint of another NIN slip

5. Another way to retrieve NIN number is to dial *346# on your mobile phone.

What to do if you forget your NIN

Nigerians who forget their NIN have been urged to take these two steps

1. Visit the nearest enrolment centre and supply your phone number or fingerprint and you will get your NIN back

2. You can also dial *346# with the number you used to register

Meanwhile, the government agency has also warned Nigerians “to stop selling and sharing NIN” as Identification number can be used by another person to perpetrate fraud.

NIMC also reiterated that NIN is a number used to tie all records about a particular individual inside the National Identity Database (NID) and used as a means to verify individuals’ identity.

The federal government on Tuesday, December 22, announced the approved enrolment centres where Nigerians in Diaspora can register for the National Identification Number (NIN).

This was contained in a series of tweets by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) following the NCC’s directives mandating the telecommunication operators to block SIM cards not linked to NIN.

The federal government announced approved 173 centres and 30 state government institutions to conduct enrolment for Nigerians staying in the country.

You can now be able to hide your old unwanted Facebook posts with the use of the “Manage Activity” feature in Facebook.

We often post our day-to-day activities on Facebook in order to showcase our lifestyle which with time we may regret posting some of those pictures or you got an information that your potential employer wants to view your Facebook profile to know the kind of person you are.

One of the way to get rid of those pictures is by deleting them, but what if they give you memory of your past and you don’t want to delete them completely. This is where the Manage Activity tool comes in.

The tool gives you the ability to delete pictures in bulk based on criteria like posts with certain people, or posts between certain time span.

You can delete, curate, and basically revamp your own digital footprint on Facebook. You can archive the posts that you don’t want others to see, but don’t want to delete them either. You can even choose to trash them if you want. But if you change your mind about deleting those posts, you can retrieve them from the trash within 30 days, unless you have manually deleted that post from the trash as well.

If you want to use this tool, you have to follow these simple steps:

How to hide old unwanted Facebook posts from your profile using “Manage Activity” Feature

Step 1: Open Facebook and open your profile

Step 2: Tap on Activity Log>Manage Activity>Your Posts

Step 3: Tap on Filters and choose from “People” or “Date” if you have any criteria for organising your posts or you can tap on “categories” and choose which posts do you want to curate from options: All, Text updates, check-ins, notes and more, Photos and videos and Posts from other apps

Step 4: Now just select the posts and tap on “Archive” or “Trash” options at the bottom, to organise the posts.

With the aforementioned steps you will be able to get rid of old unwanted posts from you Facebook profile.

The new Apple’s flagship smartwatch Apple Watch 6, measures blood oxygen level which is what makes it different from its predecessor Apple Watch 5. In this article, I will be showing you how you can use blood oxygen monitor on the Apple Watch.

One of the reason Apple introduced this feature in Apple Watch 6 was because of Covid-19, given the fact it has been found to be an early indication of the virus.

However, Apple is clear that it’s not a medical tool, and should only be used for monitoring general fitness or wellness – so while it’s an interesting thing to check out from time to time, it doesn’t feel like a headline feature.

How the Blood Oxygen Feature in Apple Watch Works

The oximeter uses your watch’s built-in blood oxygen app, which you can use to manually trigger an on-demand blood oxygen check. However, your watch can also conduct periodic background readings over the course of the day.

The blood oxygen sensor is composed of four LED clusters and four photodiodes integrated into the back of your watch case. The green, red, and infrared LEDs shine light onto the blood vessels in your wrist, while the photodiodes assess the amount of light reflected back. The technology then detects the color of your blood as a sign of how much oxygen is present.

In general, a “normal” or safe blood oxygen level should be somewhere between 95% and 100%. Although your mileage may vary slightly, consistent readings less than 90% are considered low and a potential sign of some underlying condition.

How to use blood oxygen monitor on the Apple Watch?

The below step will show you how you can easily turn on blood oxygen monitoring in your Apple watch.

Step 1: Open the Watch App on your iPhone and click on Blood Oxygen option.

Step 2: Toggle the blood oxygen measurements to switch it on if it’s not already on.

(Image: @ pcmag)

Step 3: On your Apple Watch, after enabling the feature on your iPhone, click on the digital crown to activate your apps screen. Then look for the icon with blue and red swishing lines, forming a circle against a white backdrop and click it.

Step 4: An instruction alert will appear on the screen for few guidelines especially if the watch is not properly fitted on your wrist. The watch must not be too low on your wrist or too tight and the Apple watch screen must face upward.

Step 5: Once in position, tap “Start” to activate a 15-second countdown timer and a psychedelic blue and red on-screen animation. Once the timer is up, your blood oxygen will display as a percentage.

With the Aforementioned steps, hope you were able to use the blood oxygen monitor on your Apple Watch 6.
