How To Modify Your Information On National ID Card (NIN)

The National Identity Card Management Commission (NIMC) allows Nigerians to modify their name, date of birth, address, and other information on their National Identity Card.

NIMC understands that mistake is unavoidable. So, if you made a mistake during the process of National Identity card registration, you can correct the mistake to have more accurate information through NIMC modifications scheme.

Major Reasons For NIN Data Modification

There are seven major reasons why you may want to modify your National Identity Number data, they are:

  • Marital status
  • Unintentional mistakes
  • Wrongly spelled name
  • change of address
  • Change of Phone Number
  • level of education
  • change of occupation

This process also applies to how to apply for the correction of date of birth at any of the branches of the National Identity Management Commission closer to you.

Before we move further, take note that not all fields in your NIN data can be edited. below are the updatable and non-updatable fields:

Updatable Fields (approved)

  1. Names
  2. Date of Birth (carries a different fee, see above)
  3. Addresses
  4. Phone Number
  5. Place of Birth – State
  6. Place of Birth – LGA
  7. Place of Birth – Country (if different from Nigeria)
  8. Place of Origin – State
  9. Place of Origin – Town, Village
  10. Place of Origin – LGA
  11. Father’s NIN
  12. Father’s Town, Village of Origin
  13. Father’s State of Origin
  14. Father’s LGA of Origin
  15. Mother’s NIN
  16. Mother’s Town, Village of Origin
  17. Mother’s State of Origin
  18. Mother’s LGA of Origin

Note: Service Fee: N500 per field (except for Change of Date of Birth which is N15,000 for processing your request only – non-refundable)
Payable through the NIMC into the TSA (CBN).

Requirements for NIN Data Modification

Applicants are to present the following:

1. The original copy of the NIN slip issued to them after the first registration

2. The printout of the Remita Retrieval Reference (RRR) Number given at the bank after payment/ or a printout stating the payment details if the payment was made online

3. An Application Letter duly signed by the applicant for change in the data fields he/she wishes to modify stating the reason

4. The supporting document to back the proposed changes is to be submitted accordingly.

Change of Name

  • Sworn Affidavit
  • Newspaper Extract
  • Marriage Certificate (in cases of marriage)

Change of Address

  • Utility Bill
  • Tenancy Agreement
  • Bank Statement
  • Community leader Attestation

Phone Number due to loss or mechanical damage

  • Police Report

Level of Education

  • Certificate obtained

Change of Occupation

  • Offer Letter

How To Modify Your Information On National ID Card (NIN)

Follow the steps below to edit your data on your National ID card;

1. Visit any National ID card enrolment center with the required documents

2. Collect the data modification form and fill it.

3. Your data modification forms will be cross-checked by NIMC Officials

4. NIMC will input the data on their system and ask you to check if there is an error.

5. Your Biometrics will be captured.

6. Transaction ID Slip will be issued to you as evidence of the transaction.

7. You go home and return after 2 or 5 working days

8. Finally, collect your modified NIN slip

Note: You must make payment before modification commences.

How To Make Payment For Your NIN Modification

1. Visit www.remita.net to start the payment process.

2. Click on the option ‘Pay Billers‘ on the ‘Bills & Purchases‘ button.

3. Who do You want to Pay – type in ‘National Identity Management Commission.

4. Name of Service/Purpose – choose ‘Modification of any other field other than DOB‘ or ‘Correction of date of Birth‘.

5. Amount to Pay – will be set based on your choice in the step above.

6. Payer’s Name – type your full name.

7. Payer’s Phone – type your phone number.

8. Tick the ‘I am not a robot’ reCAPTCHA checkbox and click on the stated selection of images before clicking on the ‘Verify’ button.

9. Click on the ‘Submit’ icon to ͞proceed to payment.

10. Print the invoice and take note of your RRR.

11. Choose a payment method; ‘Card’ or ‘Bank Branch.

12. Proceed to complete your transaction.
