Lagos State To Commence Online Training For Professional Drivers

General Manager of the Institute, Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu, disclosed this while featuring on “Ire Ni Ti Wa”, a magazine radio programme on Bond FM 92.9, where she focused on “Importance of LASDRI Card to private and commercial vehicle operators.

She stressed that professional drivers that needed to renew their LASDRI recertification card can conduct their training online and print a temporary recertification certificate at www.new.lasdri.org.
“Professional Drivers can now access and conduct their mandatory training in the comfort of their home through our online platform.

After going through the training, a temporary recertification card will be issued to them immediately, they are to print it and take it to the nearest Centre or Annex of the Institute to get their permanent recertification card.” She explained.

While clarifying the recent controversy generated over the LASDRI Recertification Card, the General Manager said that both Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) are both empowered by Law to ensure that all professional drivers comply with the Lagos State Government’s directives which stated that all ‘professional drivers who earn their living through driving’ must attend the Institute for their yearly mandatory training. “LASDRI has a curriculum which differs from year to year for drivers to update their driving skills and have an in-depth knowledge of driving rules and regulations,” she said.
She added that part of the obligations required to be fulfilled by any trainee driver is that she/he must have obtained a valid Drivers’ License and that the LASDRI Recertification Card is not a substitute for a valid Drivers’ License.

Tiamiyu said the institute would be opening a new annex soon at Task Force Office, Bolade, Oshodi, to further decongest the number of trainee drivers attending the Ikeja center of the Institute.

She added that this will bring the total number of the Institute’s Centres and Annexes to 10 and therefore appeal to all professional drivers that are yet to visit the Institute to take their time and come and benefit from its wealth of experience while urging them to stay safe and comply with all the rules and regulations guiding transportation in Lagos State.

Tiamiyu further advised all professional drivers to drive carefully and that managing an already damaged vehicle is a threat to their lives, the lives of commuters as well as other road users especially in this rainy season, adding that safety first should be a watchword in this ember months.
