FMHDS Update: N5000 Cash Transfer To Commence Soon

In today’s FMHDS Update, the National Cash Transfer Office has come out to apologise for the delay in the payment of the N5000 Conditional Cash Transfer to poor and vulnerable households registered under the Household Uplifting Programme (HUP).

The Household Uplifting Programme (HUP) is an arm of the National Social Safety Nets Project (NASSP) and a component of the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP).

This was disclosed by the National Communication Officer from the National Cash Transfer Office, Mr Henry Ayede on Thursday in Abuja.

The National Programme Coordinator, Hajiya Halima Shehu who called for calmness among the beneficiaries, noted that the payment would be made soon to the beneficiaries.

Shehu clarified that the office understood the difficulties the delay had caused, adding that the pause in payment became necessary to strengthen systems while also improving the implementation process to serve beneficiaries better.

“We fully understand the delay has brought about difficulties that have affected some of the beneficiaries’ plans.

“The pause in payment became necessary to strengthen systems and improve the implementation process to serve them better, ensure value for money, accountability and transparency.

“These are requisite to achieving President Muhammadu Buhari’s government vision of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in the next 10 years,’’ she stated.

The Household Uplifting Programme is focused on responding to deficiencies in capacity and lack of investment in human capital, especially amongst the poorest citizens of Nigeria.

Beneficiaries of the programme are mined from the National Social Register (NSR), comprising State Social Registers (SR) of poor and vulnerable households, and are paid N5,000 bi-monthly Stipend.

The National Cash Transfer Office (NCTO) under the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development is the intervention arm of the National Social Safety Nets Project (NASSP) which facilitate cash transfers and capacity building of beneficiaries.

According to a statistical report from the office, 1,785,577 were enrolled for the Condition Cash Transfer Programme across the 36 States plus the Federal Capital Territory using simple Mobile Technology.
