1. Obaseki Qualified To Contest Edo Election, Court Rules

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ruled that Governor Godwin Obaseki was qualified to contest in the September 2020 governorship election.

Naija News reports that Justice Ahmed Mohammed delivered the ruling on the alleged certificate forgery suit filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) against Obaseki.

Justice Mohammed while delivering judgment said that the APC failed to prove the forgery allegation beyond reasonable doubt.

2. Nigeria Army Redeploys Generals, Colonels, Others (See Full List)

In a move to rejuvenate the war against Boko Haram and bandits, the Nigerian Army has redeployed over 1000 of its officers to various new positions.

According to a list obtained by Premium Times, 210 general were among the 1,546 officers redeployed by the Army.

Others redeployed were 450 Colonels, 309 Majors, 251 Captains and 322 Lieutenants.

3. President Buhari’s Top Aide Contracts COVID-19

President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, has tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Naija News reports that Ojudu disclosed this in a statement on his Facebook page on Saturday.

While narrating his experience, the Ekiti-born politicians disclosed that he tested positive for the deadly virus on December 23rd, 2020.

4. Seven Feared Dead As Amotekun, Herdsmen Clash in Oyo

Several people have been confirmed dead as operatives of the Oyo State Security Network, Amotekun clashed with some Fulani Herdsmen in Aiyete area, Ibarapa North LGA of the state.

It was gathered that the clash occurred in Okebi village on Saturday morning which led to violence and chaos in the area.

According to an eyewitness, several houses were also burned down and over seven people have been confirmed dead.

5. FG Reveals Sharing Formula For First Batch Of COVID-19 Vaccine (See Details)

The Federal Government has released details of how the first batch of COVID-19 vaccine doses will be shared across states in Nigeria.

This was disclosed during a webinar organized by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) tagged “Sensitisation Meeting with Media Gatekeepers on COVID-19 Vaccine Introduction”.

The executive director of the NPHCDA, Faisal Shuaib, Nigeria will receive 100,000 doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine at the end of January.

6. Popular Nollywood Actor, Jim Maduike Is Dead

Popular Nigerian actor and broadcaster, Jim Lawson Maduike, has reportedly died on Saturday, January 9, 2020.

Naija News learned that the Nollywood actor and filmmaker allegedly died after complaining of body pains at around 12 pm today.

The Imo State thespian joined the Nollywood movie industry in 2004 and has since acted in more than 150 movies.

7. ‘FCMB Boss, Nuru Not Father Of My Kids’ – Moyo Thomas Breaks Silence

A former staff of First City Monument Bank, Moyo Thomas, says the Managing Director of the bank, Adam Nuru, is not the father of her children.

Naija News reports that Moyo is the lady at the centre of the infidelity and paternity allegation against Nuru, who is now on leave.

Recall that a group of people, who identified themselves as friends of the deceased, Tunde Thomas, petitioned the Central Bank of Nigeria and the bank’s board to sanction the FCMB chief for infidelity.

8. Pantami Reveals Condition To Review NIN Registration Process

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, on Friday, disclosed condition that would make the National Identity Management Commission review the enrolment process for the National Identification Number.

Pantami said the enrolment process will be reviewed if the Federal Government impose a fresh lockdown amid the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

He noted that the ministry will meet with NIMC and telecommunication operators if the federal government decides to declare a fresh lockdown and review the NIN linkage to SIM cards exercise.

9. US: Twitter Permanently Suspends Trump

The incumbent president of the United States of America, President Donald Trump has been permanently suspended from Twitter.

The decision was reached due to the violence and attack on the US Capitol by his supporters.

Twitter in a post said, “After a close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account, we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.”

10. Boeing 737 Disappears From Radar In Indonesia With 62 People On Board

A Boeing 737 plane went missing in Indonesia on Saturday, January 9. The authorities fear a probable fall at sea.

The Boeing 737 disappeared off the coast of Indonesia as it flew over the Java Sea. The plane had taken off from the capital, Jakarta, and was on a domestic flight to Pontianak.

Indonesian company Sriwijawa lost contact with a Boeing 737 shortly after takeoff, the transport ministry said. The institution added that sixty-two people are missing.
